Bur-reed (Sparganium erectum)

Bur-reed is a common marginal water plant but is interesting because of the striking, bur-like flowers. On the Great Garden pond, it grows to between 0.5m and 1m tall, approximately. As well as providing cover for the nesting moorhens, the upright leaves also act as useful perches for damselflies on sunny days.
